Where is the Republican Ground Game?

Call this diary a missing person report, but where the hell is the Republican National Committee's ground game? At this point four years ago, they were out in full force kicking our asses in terms of organizing, micro-targeting and voter contact. Not only was Bush re-elelcted, but Republicans picked up several Senate seats and picked up two governorships. But I don't see or hear anything this year. All I hear about is the number of field offices Barack Obama has not just in battleground state, but in red states all across America. We also hear the lack of offices set up by John McCain. So the question is, what is the RNC up to? Are they basing their strategy on ads? Have they thrown their downballot candidates under the bus? What do you all see in your parts of the country??

Answer: It is in the airport restroom in Minneapolis, with the rest of these penis-less war mongers.

I've seen none in Iowa (2.00 / 1)

But I live in the bluest district of IA.  It's possible that they're focusing on the more conservative areas of western Iowa where they have incumbent R reps.

On a similar topic, I'm a lurker at Free Republic and I've seen very little discussion of electoral considerations there.  They spend lots of time gloating about how they will convince voters that Obama is a socialist, muslim, liberal, etc; I've heard nothing about strategy in Ohio, for example.

Of course, maybe that is because Free Republic is teh suck.

Kudos to you for even going there and reading that crap, so we don't have to.
You should post diaries about what you read over there, I'm sure they'd be popular.
Laughing at Republicans is so much fun!

I'm not seeing anything, but I live in the back of beyond in western rural Kansas.
You couldn't get much more red than around here.
You know those low informaton voters (that still support Bush) everyone talks about, but no one has met?
They're here.

Here in deep blue San Francisco, I see Obama people all over the place organzing neighborhoods. It feels like overkill, but perhaps they are trying to gin up folks who will also vote no on the gay marriage ban.

Re: Where is the Republican Ground Game? (none / 0)

The conventional wisdom seems to have settled on Ohio, Colorado, and Virginia being the big three targets for Obama to get over 270, and he will surely pour a lot of resources into those states.  But just by running up the vote in blue areas in blue states, it will give support to what may appear to be a narrow electoral win.  If Obama can win California by 20 points, New York by 30, Illinois by 30, etc., it would throw the national popular vote in his favor pretty strongly, even if he only narrowly ekes out wins in Ohio, Colorado, and/or Virginia.  Remember Bush's 2.4% "mandate"?  Imagine what Obama could do after winning the popular vote by 8%.

I hate living in Kansas. Thank the gods for Kathleen Sebelius, or I'd be totally lost.

In Florida (2.00 / 1)

there are few McCain signs and bumper stickers.

In 2004 Bush signs were everywhere - it is really quote shocking how absent the ground game is here in Florida.

Perhaps they think Florida is already won.

Nothing GOP organization to speak of in Hawaii, but then again there is no Republican Party in Hawaii, there is just Governor Lingle and an ever dwindling number of state legislators from the few red districts of the state.  They're going to lose even more this year with Obama fervor pretty strong here.
