My American Dream

I'm not the first to get all gushy over celebrities and their statements, but sometimes they get it right.

will.i.am hit the nail on the head with this one:

And now another one strikes a chord with me.

We all have an American Dream.

It is easy to get lost in all the activity of the election.  To get wrapped around the personalities, the details, the moment-by-moment evolving metrics, polls and pundits.

I like Senator Obama, a lot, and I have for some time.  But while he was the person to ring the bell, it is not his hand but the message that he first spoke that drives me.

Hope.

I have hope.  I have a dream.

There are those who would downplay these things as naive cliches, but they forget that there is only one alternative to Hopes, only one opposite of Dreams.  They forget that we have all experienced these alternatives for a very long time now.  They forget that these alternatives do not offer anything whatsoever, that they only deny.

So say what they will about my Hope - about my Dreams - they will not take them away from me.

YES WE CAN! ( it's been some time since I wrote that)

Inspiring diary about and inspiring movement.

Hope, Change, Dreams might sound cliche, but for some of us it's all we've got going in or lives right now.

Times are tough and I can admire any person who wants to do something about it. Barack Obama is that person.

Highly rec'd and can't wait until I can call him President Obama.

Re: My American Dream (2.00 / 2)

Thanks for this.  Such a great diary that cuts to the main reason so many of us noticed Obama back in the day.  They mock us for it, but it's great to have a candidate that inspires such hope.  Recced, hopefully this stays up for awhile ahead of all the other silly season diaries.  It's been a frustrating time, so thanks for the smile you gave me.

My dream is pretty simple. I want eight houses.

Highly overrated, (none / 0)

too much upkeep.

Just go on vacation and rent, then someone else can worry about the roof leaking.

Chris, thank you (none / 0)

for posting a diary that's actually nice about the Democratic candidate for president.  It's such a welcome relief from the bullshit on the rec list.
